: Punk History Canada Articles : : Punk History Canada CD Compilation : : Reviews : See Magazine Review (Jan 5, 2006) ONLY IN CANADA, EH: 77 — 81, VOLUME ONE There will probably at least one or two self-proclaimed punk historians who writhe about in a sanctimonious spasm when they read the track listing of PunkHistoryCanada.ca's first Can-Punk compilation. "How could they leave off [xxx band]?" they might cry while gnashing their teeth and crying softly into their weathered Viletones merch. But fuck them. Covering the spittin' and shittin' glory years of '77-'81, Only in Canada, Eh pulls of an ambitious survey of the nascent days of Canadian punk and features not only recognizable names that are still around, like D.O.A. and Teenage Head, but also groups that have faded into the collective memory of their local scenes. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the restoration team, some tracks sound as if they were originally recorded inside of a dog's colon (which they may have been back then). However, that doesn't take away from the fact that there are some great gems on the album. Unknown's "Teenage Terrorist," in particular, got jammed in my head for a day. It's good start to what will hopefully become a series that continues to take some risks in its histo-musical sketch of Canadian Punk. JAMES ELFORD
