Review from Dagger of Punk History Canada CD

V/A- ONLY IN CANADA, EH ( 1977-’81) - VOLUME 1- PUNK HISTORY CANADA- Sorta like a companion piece to the VANCOUVER COMPLICATION comp. that Sudden Death Records released last year, this 23 song comp. has some bands you will have heard of (D.O.A., Teenage Head, etc.) and , at least for me, many I had not heard of ( Warsaw, Slander, Extroverts, Nostrils, Sinners, and too many more) but still, the song quality is top notch and does not fail to impress. Much of the music is fierce and raw , similar to a D.O.A. style punk but there are some exceptions here. The squonking saxophone in Da Slyme’s “Crazy Glue”, the zippy pop punk of The Bureaucrats “She’s an American” (with a British singer), and Slander’s “Petticoat Junction” which sounds A LOT like early Circle Jerks (except for the wacky backing vocals). There’s a lot to like here and many of these songs are previously unreleased so pick this up and play it for your parents, cousins, kids, and grandmothers and watch them all swoon.
